This is an exciting time in the history of SOU. With a new governing board, new statewide priorities in higher education, dedicated and experienced faculty and staff, and a highly engaged student body, the campus community and leadership are charting the course for a bright and sustainable future for Southern Oregon University. The Board of Trustees is seeking a new president for the institution, one who will help create the vision for SOU and shape the future of the institution as it moves forward into its next phase.
One of the most important responsibilities of the SOU Board of Trustees is the hiring of the university’s president. In October of 2015, President Roy Saigo, Ph.D., announced his intention to retire at the conclusion of his current contract, which is scheduled to end on July 31, 2016. The Board is appreciative of President Saigo’s many contributions to SOU since July of 2014, and will continue to build upon his work for the university.
The SOU Board of Trustees has authorized the creation of a Presidential Search Committee. Chaired by SOU Trustee Lyn Hennion, Senior Vice President at Umpqua Investments, this 21-member committee has been appointed to recommend candidates for SOU’s next president to the full Board of Trustees for approval. This committee includes a broad range of stakeholders, including trustees, faculty, staff, students, alumni and members of the community.
Over the coming months, the university’s Presidential Search Committee will work to ensure that its process is as inclusive and transparent as possible. To that end, this website has been developed to communicate with the SOU community, and beyond, as we achieve milestones in the search process.
